HOW TO BECOME A HOME HEALTH AIDE IN NEW JERSEY?

Becoming a home health aide in New Jersey can be a quick process, especially if you allow us to take the stress of planning off your hands. Below is a breakdown of the minimum, education, and training requirements for a CHHA certification in New Jersey. 

1. Meet the Basic Requirements

  • Complete a basic education like a high-school diploma or GED

  • Be At least 18 years old

  • Be a US citizen or qualified legal alien

  • Have a government-issued photo ID

  • Pass the criminal history background check with a clean criminal background

2. Complete a State-Approved CHHA Training Program

  • Completed 76 hours of training (60 hours of classroom instruction + 16 hours hands-on clinical practice)

3. Pass the Competency Evaluation

  • Demonstrate essential skills learned in the CHHA training program through efficient completion of tasks

4. Have a Verified Employment Offer

  • A verified offer of employment from an accredited home care agency 

5. Apply for Certification

  • Submit your application online to the New Jersey Board of Nursing

6. Employment

  • Must work under supervision of a registered nurse (RN) 

  • Must be employed by a licensed home health care services agency

7. Maintain CHHA certification

  • Certification must be renewed every 2 years
